Koloa
Koloa is the place where Hawaii’s first successful sugar plantation, known as Old Sugar Mill’, was established in 1835. In 1948, it became part of the Grove Farm. It is said that the district of Koloa was named after a steep rock, Pali-o-k’i-loa, which can be found in Waikomo stream.
Koloa is home to 1,942 people, 693 households and 507 families as of the 2000 census. The total census-designated place, all of which are land, has a total area of 1.2 square. As such it can be estimated that the total population density is around 1629.5 people per square mile, and that there are around 748 housing units at an average density of 627.6 per square mile.
