Guide to Visiting Bishop Museum in Honolulu

Bishop Museum is located in the city of Honolulu. Charles Reed Bishop originally establishes the museum. Bishop is the last person to survive in the Kamehameha clan. To commemorate his wife, he decided to setup the museum. Bishop Museum offers both changing exhibits and fixed exhibits. You will be able to explore all kinds of modern exhibitions created by the Native Hawaiians and members of the Hawaiian royalty. There are several sections visitors can visit including Hawaiian Hall, Polynesian Hall, Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kahili Room, Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center, and Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame.

Hawaiian Hall is a 3-storey building that offers exhibition on different aspects of Hawaii. The first floor, Kai Akea, offers exhibitions of various Hawaiian gods. While at the first floor, you will get to learn about the different beliefs and culture of Hawaii. In the second floor, Wao Kanaka, you can explore the lifestyle of the Hawaiian people. You will learn about the places where the people live and what kinds of work they do. By exploring the artworks in Wao Kanaka, you will know how much importance the Hawaiians place on the land to earn a living. In the third floor, Wao Lani, you can learn about many ali’i in the history of Hawaii.

Polynesian Hall is a 2-storey museum gallery that offers exhibition on the culture of people living on the Pacific islands. Here, you will get to explore the cultures of people from Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia. You can find out interesting facts about the different aspects of Polynesians such as daily life, clothing, music, dance and etc.

Abigail Kinoiki Kekaulike Kahili Room displays the artifacts of the well-known ali’i in Hawaii. You will see portraits of important persons in the Hawaiian monarchy.

Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center is a facility that covers an area of 16,500 square foot. It offers interactive exhibitions so that you can gain a clearer understanding of the local environment. Visitors can get hands on experiences in various areas of scientific objects such as volcanology and oceanology.

Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame offers exhibitions on pictures and memorabilia of important sports accomplishments. The purpose of displaying the sports memorabilia is to encourage the athletes to show devotion in different athletic pursuits.

If you want to go to Bishop Museum, you should take the H-1 West highway. If you keep on following the Likelike Highway, you will come to the Bishop Museum.
